I think this is the biggest diameter moon halo I've ever seen. It was really quite spectacular.
I was out and didn't have a real camera on me, but my phone has done a decent job, especially after a bit of massaging in Lightroom.

Running Rings Around Me

Late and a backup today.
I was out all afternoon and evening doing my soundman bit (The 2nd photo, after the jump, is a wonky snapshot from my phone).
The punters seemed to enjoy the show, so I'm calling that a win.

Fallen Giant
I went for a walk with Bailey and co today, where I came across this tree that has fallen over. I found the incredibly shallow root structure on such a large tree intriguing.
The dog tax is duly paid after the jump (although only a phone photo this time).

A Series Of Curves

A backup photo again today - I had a very busy day running sound for In Disguise (the band I've got involved with recently), so I ended up not having time or energy to attend to photos (beyond a couple of snapshots, which I've included after the jump).
The new mixer worked excellently, and the band were very well received.

HeartHeartHeart / That which is insufficiently flat
A backup image from a very long time ago, back in February. I did take a few photos today, but they were very boring technical things. You can see one after the jump, if you're inclined to seek out such tedium.

2024-06-01: Many pizzas, few photos
Just a phone pic today - I was cooking pizzas for my brother-in-law's cricket club fundraiser, and didn't have change to take anything decent.
I'm late posting this, to boot!

Celestial bombardment
I was hoping the forecasts of more auroral activity for this evening would pan out, but it seems that it's not going to. Oh well, yesterday was an evening I won't forget in a hurry.
Yesterday's aurora must have been the most photographed in history. It's been great to see the widespread international enthusiasm online today.
While it's not a technically good photo, I like the memory captured in the selfie after the jump - cameras on phones have certainly come a long way in the last few years!

Speedwell
A walk in the woods with a local wildlife group and Bailey today.
Phone pic of a worn-out Bailey after the jump, to pay the dog tax 😊
I want to go back with a better setup, and without the time pressure of a guided walk to re-shoot a few subjects I saw today.

Alstroemeria / Turkish Coffee
A couple of pics from today, one is a quick focus stack of an alstroemeria, and the other one is a phone pic of (the remains of) a Turkish coffee I had after lunch.
I originally took the picture as a quick snap to send to family who were trying to guess where we were, but I ended up liking it as an image in its own right, so I decided to use it on here to reflect the reality of the weekend rather than just another set-up shot.
Just wish I’d had a real camera on me rather than falling back on the phone!

Staggering incompetence
Traditionally, when one goes out with the express intention of taking photographs, one would carry, at a minimum, one camera.
I did things differently today. I took eight lenses, two teleconverters, a tripod, spare batteries, spare memory card; and no camera body.
This may, hypothetically, have rendered the photographic expedition somewhat ... limited.
Fortunately, modern phones have excellent cameras, so I present to you what I'm declaring to be victory, extracted from the jaws of defeat.
