Pink Flash

Click image to view a bigger version

This photo marks 1000 days of daily-ish photos, starting from 2024/01/01.
Since the start, I've managed to shoot something on the day (ie. not using a backup photo) an average of 75% of the time.
2024 had the best consistency / hit rate, and this year has been a bit better than last year was, although I've got pretty lackadaisical about keeping on top of posting lately.

When my Instagram view and like count fell off a cliff for some reason (Algorithm change? My own declining quality? The tsunami of AI slop drowning real content? Demotion of non-video content?), it took some of the dopamine hit effect out of it, and I found I was less bothered about keeping up with posting.

I'm going to take a bit of pressure off myself now, and take a break from attempting to hit every day.

I'll still try to share some stuff, but it'll be more sporadic.

Thanks for following along!

I am glad of the good memories on days like these.

This poem (transcribed here by my mum), as well as those in the same collection, spoke deeply to me in the weeks after we lost Lucy; Michael Faber's words did much to help me feel less alone in that time, and helped me to start to process things.
I'm grateful to him for sharing his and Eva's story in this book.

No idea what sort, but it was rather diminutive.
This one's a stack of 10 shots using the camera's internal focus bracketing.
A highly advanced new camera support solution was used here - my dad's wallet turned out to be the perfect size to prop the lens at the right angle!

Apropos of nothing, I was musing recently on why tilt-shift lenses don't seem to be so readily available for mirrorless systems.
I suspect the answer lies substantially in the straightening capabilities of editing software such as Lightroom - this photo wasn't taken straight on, but the distortion has almost completely been removed with the transformation tool in LR.

An odd coincidence that I should have an image to apply the technique to so soon after my disjointed musings.

I saw my patio had dried unevenly after rain this morning when I stopped work for a coffee, and thought it made for an interesting pattern. Then I spotted this little seedling appearing through the slats, and thought it made for a more interesting photo, so this is what I'm inflicting on you today.

When I Grow Up, I Want Afterburners

Click image to view a bigger version

Another backup photo today, and I had to dig back rather a long way into the archives for this one, I've become very sluggish with my photography recently. Even when I've taken the camera out with me, I've ended up not shooting anything much.

I'm thinking I'm probably going to call a halt to the project, at least for a while, once I've hit 1000 days, which will be towards the end of the month.

I went shopping the other night and saw a pack of Iced Gems on the shelf.
Iced Gems were one of the treats that were a regular offering at my Granny's as kids.
I've not had them, or even seen them on sale for years, so I decided that I had to buy them for the memories.

Lively Character

My family gave me this hydroponic plant a little while ago. I noticed that it seemed to move around a lot through the day, so I shot a timelapse of it to see what it actually gets up to when I'm not looking.

The timelapse isn't technically great, although it is quite interesting to see (after the jump).

Waiting Forever

So, it's day two of two, and customs still have my widget in their sweaty little paws.
Today therefore turned into madly clicking refresh on the DHL tracking page while designing a mounting frame, followed by a factory visit, lunch, and back to the airport.

Home late, just in time for no tea and no medals. Boo.

A backup photo today.

Customs still have my widget, so I spent the day working from my hotel room.

Got a fair amount of work done, and had a pizza for lunch though, so that's always a positive.

Go

Click image to view a bigger version

A backup photo today. After a lot of yes/no/maybe back-and-forth, we eventually decided that I should head off to Portugal for a work trip, despite of the risk of our widget not escaping Portuguese customs in time.

I evidently live a very boring life, but I've never previously booked a flight mere hours in the future, it's always felt like the sort of thing one should do well in advance, for no reason in particular.

We shall see what transpires...

Some Wait, Some Move

Click image to view a bigger version

Very late posting this one, it's been another slightly silly one.
I took the wrong lens with me for a walk in the dark. I needed more aperture, more now. Or more tripod, more now; although that would have carried more risk of a tram making me more flat, more now.
