Speaking in the context of the day in question rather than the day of posting: I spent a rather busy day preparing kit for testing at an EMC lab.
I anticipate an interesting day tomorrow.

I froze myself nearly solid this afternoon waiting for a murmuration that never occurred.
I can't work out whether it just didn't happen, or happened really early, or I left too soon, but I gave it a good 15 minutes after sunset, having got in position half an hour or so before.
Colour me confused (as usual).

I don't think much to the 1.4x extender on this lens with the R5. Oddly enough, I think this is the first time I've used the combination, but it's pretty fuzzy, even stopped well down and with a respectably fast shutter speed. Some more investigation may be required as I don't recall it being this bad in the past.

I don't mind this shot though.

Luminary

I spotted the moon through this plant, and thought it made for an interesting shot.
As the depth of field was so shallow at the long focal length I had to use to get the moon to a decent size in the frame, (840mm) this is a composite made up of one shot focused on the branch, and one focused out on the moon.
You have to be relatively quick with setups like this, as the moon drifts across your frame at a surprising speed. 15°/hour doesn't sound like much, but when your field of view is less than 3°, and you're lining the moon up in a small gap, your framing goes to pot in a matter of seconds.

Only minimal programming was indulged in today, although my wallet has been substantially lightened both by buying a suit for my sister's upcoming wedding, and then a trip to Ikea.

Sunny Interval

A lovely sunny day today seemed to have caused everyone to head out for a walk - I tried to visit two different parks, only to find their car parks completely full! I ended up back at my favourite riverside spot and had a pleasant little wander there instead.

I went out with an aim of getting a shot for 52Frames' latest challenge, "Redo" - where we are invited to revisit any challenge from the last year. As I've only been doing it for a few weeks, I elected to go for the challenge that was live when I first came across the project, "Fill The Frame". That shot is after the jump.

A bit of a weird day in some ways. Lots of thoughts of those we can't be with, whether temporarily or permanently.
The weather was remarkably pleasant though!

Well, we potter around and crouch over benches, looking slightly insane and photographing the others, at least!

A backup image today, taken last night.

I woke up this morning with a splitting headache, and feeling quite sick, so I think it was probably a migraine.
All rather unpleasant, and resulted in having to spend a large chunk of the day in bed - but things did improve in the early evening, which was quite a relief.

I was going for a more abstract look with this one.

I was also having a play with a bit of an unconventional macro arrangement - my 50mm f/2.5 macro lens, with a 20mm extension tube, and then a 1.4x teleconverter that is normally only usable with specific L series lenses because it has an element that protrudes into the back of those lenses. The extension tube made space for that element, and it appears to work quite well.

Three Panoramas

I went out for a bit of a drive round this evening and got these.
I wasn't deliberately fishing for panoramic shots, but I felt these all worked better at this aspect ratio than the as-shot ratio.
First one is with the Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary + 1.4x teleconverter @ 600mm (840mm effective).

(Mostly) Failing to find Ospreys

Went on a boat trip at Rutland Water this evening to try and see ospreys.
We did catch a glimpse of a couple in the distance, but even with a 600mm lens, plus 1.4x teleconverter, mounted to a 1.6x crop sensor body for an effective 35mm equivalent focal length of over 1300mm, they were not very large in the frame.
Still a fun trip though...

I have to admit to feeling a bit obscura myself right now.
I have to go into the office tomorrow; shared workspaces and the diseases that live in them suck my soul out and mash it into oblivion.

Effective focal length on this was 600mm; The 70-200 @ 200mm with Canon 1.4x teleconverter and a Jessops 2x converter.
A hefty tripod is a necessity with this setup.
