Clean Your Teeth
Interesting abstract shapes hide in the most mundane of everyday objects.
One more after the jump.

Maintained
The lamps in most of my garden lights have slowly failed, and I finally got round to ordering and fitting new ones today.
Much better!

Arrested Descent
A backup image from yesterday's outing because my brain is melted from fighting with wires today.
It's remarkable how long it can take to identify and resolve a simple fault when you're dealing with a complex system.

Egghead
An Egghead Mottlegill - I think, anyway. This came out much better than I had expected when I was shooting, with a little bit of work in Lightroom.

Sedum
A 3x macro of a little Sedum plant I bought yesterday.
The florist on our high street recently closed down, and the shop was rapidly taken over and reopened, again as a florist, by new people. I spotted they had a few trays of these Sedums out the front, and fancied taking one home.
I've added a behind-the-scenes photo today (after the jump). I ended up using quite the contrivance to shoot this, with the centre column of the tripod inverted, and the mount ring of the lens rotated upwards, joined by the WeMacro rail.
I also had two Godox MF12s mounted to the front of the lens via a special 3D printed adapter - necessary because Canon evidently saw unfit to include a filter thread on the front of this lens for some inexplicable reason.
All this stuff left no room for the flash transmitter to mount to the Hotshoe, so I had to connect it via an extension cable, which was not entirely free of issues.
Note to self: Consider priorities in future when purchasing plants. It transpires that getting two independently-minded miniature Schnauzers across the road while holding a potted plant is not guaranteed to be a straightforward undertaking!

Afternoon Sun
A backup image again today - this is becoming rather an excessive habit!
I am going to blame work for the current lack of creativity.

Fiery Character
The light when I left work tonight was lovely.
I unfortunately had a few jobs to do, which meant I wasn't able to make the most of it, but I did manage to grab this one.

2024-10-20
Late and a backup photo for today.
I was fairly pleased with this one, and it's one of the first photos I took with my new 85mm.

Scrunch Scrunch
I think this is the first shot I've taken this year that feels to me like it's captured some of the essence of autumn.
I took this on a walk by the river after I engaged in a spot of (possibly ill-advised) retail therapy this afternoon, after spotting that an EF 85mm f/1.2L II lens had come up second hand in @lce_nottingham.
It's quite a piece of glass, and is now the brightest lens I own.
It's extremely sharp, and the Bokeh is fantastic. I'm looking forward to doing more with this lens.

Think of better times
Late posting this one - but it's a year today since we said our final goodbyes.
The second photo (after the jump) is copyright of the talented @bendavisweddingphotography, who did a fantastic job for us.

Photographer, Photographing, Photographed
This one is from my Whitby trip.
I was heading to grab some dinner, and spotted this photographer at work out on a jetty. I thought it made a nice shot, so I fired off a few frames. As I went to switch lenses to bring things a bit closer, the bird flew off, and the moment was gone. I was pleased with the result though, and called over to introduce myself and admit what I'd been up to, and we had a pleasant little chat.
The photographer is called Wayne, and you can see his photo here. You can also find his other work here.

Tactile autumnal
I went on another late-ish wander tonight.
It was surprisingly warm. Had it not been raining, I would have been comfortable in just a thin fleece even at 22:30.
Quite the change from a few days ago.

Make It Stop
A backup image from my late walk last night.
I went out to clear my head, but I'm not convinced it helped much.
Almost everyone at work seems to be sick, and I have to be physically there to do something that I would really rather not be involved in.
I feel like a sitting duck just waiting to get ill, and there is virtually nothing I can do about it.
I really, really, hate this whole mess.

Nonspecific Warning
... Probably safe to ignore that, right?
First day back at work today. I did not enjoy it.

Telescope For Hire
Another backup image from my Whitby trip.
I liked the shadows on this walkway, and thought that a mono treatment would work for this one.
I applied some processing in Lightroom to achieve an effect similar to that of the classic red filter used in B&W photography.

Unmistakably Whitby
Late posting a backup image for today, this one was taken yesterday on my trip to Whitby.
Expect more to land from this trip over the next week or so!

Come Any Closer, And I'll Nick Yer Lunch
A trip to an old family favourite haunt today - Whitby.
Yes, chips and ice cream were duly consumed during the course of the day.

Electromagnetic Ballet
I was lucky enough to catch another absolutely stunning auroral display tonight.
I think this one was, in parts, brighter than the one back in May. It also seemed to be larger, almost completely filling the visible sky for much of the time.
Consider me a happy (if rather chilly) bunny tonight!
A couple more after the jump.

Cellular Ephemera
I thought I'd try out one of Andrew Lanxon's macro suggestions tonight - oil and water. Check out his work, and YouTube channel too - if you're interested in photography, he's a worthwhile watch.
I'm quite pleased with this, especially for a first go.
I think I'll be giving this another go in the future, and perhaps trying more liquids.
I did briefly try adding a few drops of isopropanol before I packed up, and this produced some interesting dynamic effects, but this photo was still my favourite.
Slow Flux
A backup photo today, shot yesterday.
I went with a softer, warmer process than I usually use on this photo. I like the dreamy look it's got.

Triplets
I'm enjoying my first week off work this year (Very, very overdue, I know), and I'm still pleasantly surprised at how well this little PowerShot S95 holds up after all these years.
A proper little pocket powerhouse.

Flipside
A backup image today.
After a long day yesterday, I didn't bother getting up until a borderline obscene hour!

Step Over The Wreckage, Into The Light
I did something I don't very often do this morning - I got up before it was absolutely necessary.
I think it was worth it.
One more after the jump.

Family Feast
I had a very pleasant wander in the woods today.
This little group of mushrooms caught my eye on the way in, and I took a few handheld shots there and then, but thought a more considered approach would be worth it, so after my walk, I went back with all the kit and caboodle and did it properly, with the WeMacro focus rail and Godox MF12 flashes.
This is 43 shots, 1mm apart, stacked as usual with Helicon Focus.
I'm pretty happy with the result.

Bejewelled Jewel
I keep coming back to this Fuchsia, it looks great.
It was raining this evening, so I brought the plant inside for a few photos.
I took quite a few, but I liked this little detail shot.
